Goldenrod Knight 40 x 18 in pigment ink print on fabric, found fabric, cotton, linen 2021
This woven piece was created with the intent to juxtapose the association of chivalry in knighthood and the invasive species of goldenrod.
Created using woven fabric scraps in a process often called ‘rag-rug weaving’. Two blocks of white weaving were stitched with red cloth into a banner or tapestry shape with a handcarved block print centered in the middle. A handmade frame loom was built and carved for the construction of this piece.
I aim to explore the fantastical as a societal lens. My work addresses how fantasy deconstructs human behavior, and an evolving motif of portals: entrances and exits to or from one state of being to another.
